Abstract:
At the Mechatronics division at KTH we address challenges posed by future Cyber-Physical Systems and specifically
with their incarnation in terms of various types of automated machines including highly Automated Vehicles (AVs).
In research we are interested in questions like;
– what makes a compelling, comprehensible and valid safety case for a highly automated vehicle?
– what makes an appropriate reference architecture for AVs that could be instantiated for different types of AVs, providing capabilities to ensure cost-efficient risk reduction and the right balance between availability/safety
– what represents an appropriate methodology for model-based evaluation of highly automated vehicles?
With these questions as a starting point, this talk will provide
- a view on trends in AV safety and architecting with impressions from recent industrial meetings and conferences (including OSS.5 and The Autonomous),
- an overview and glimpses of ongoing research at the Mechatronics division at KTH on automated vehicle safety, including
- an update on the AD-EYE simulation platform
- ongoing work in system formalization to support verification, with recent findings from a survey of methods to derive critical scenarios,
- safety supervisor architectures, from functional safety concepts to technical architectures
